Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, Ken Skates, is in Holywell today to see how Jobs Growth Wales has helped graphic design company, Daydream Designs, expand its services and turn a job opportunity into a full time position.

The visit comes as latest figures for the European Social Fund (ESF) backed programme show that it continues to exceed its targets. As of 10th August, 8,349 job opportunities have been created, with 6,352 young people filling these opportunities.

Daydream Designs creates bespoke handcrafted designs, offering services including website design, web marketing, brand development and signage.

Ffion Malwala has continued to impress since beginning her six month Job Growth Wales opportunity through training provider Coleg Cambria. She is now a full-time employee and is playing a leading role in the company’s production and expansion.

To date, 78% of young people who have taken up a Jobs Growth Wales opportunity have progressed into sustained employment.

Daydream Designs say they have increased profits in their Graphic Design area by 94% as a result of taking on Ffion. Director of Daydream Designs Rob Saunders said “By taking on an additional designer within this funded role, Daydream Designs has not just been able to grow in terms of production but also within its range of services which we offer.
“This is primarily due to Ffion’s forward thinking, innovative approach to the position and her general enthusiasm – which has amazed us from the start of her Jobs Growth Wales role.”

Ffion Malwala said “I feel I have really developed within this role. When I started, I was very much new to the world of commercial design. I am now confident to lead projects – managing schedules, client expectations and needs as well as end production.”

Thanks to a nomination from Daydream Designs, Ffion has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru which take place on 18th October.

Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, Ken Skates said “The latest figures speak for themselves: Jobs Growth Wales is a success story. “As we have always said, one of the key measures of success of the programme is how many opportunities are sustained beyond the 6 month period. Ffion is yet another example of a young person who has achieved great success through their job opportunity and subsequently gone on to secure full-time employment with the same employer. It’s clear just how much Daydream Designs value Ffion’s work. She has obviously made a big impact on the company, helping it to develop and expand whilst boosting profits.
“This shows just how much of a difference Jobs Growth Wales can make to a young person and their employer.”
