The EWC’s popular Professionally Speaking event returns this autumn, virtually on Wednesday 21 October 2026.
Wales is internationally recognised for its commitment to children’s rights. Those working across all education sectors in Wales need to understand young people’s experiences and ensure their rights are upheld in practice.
The EWC has announced that the keynote speaker will be Rocio Cifuentes MBE, Children’s Commissioner for Wales. Rocio will explore what learners and young people across Wales are saying about their experiences of education and what this means for those working with and supporting them.
Drawing on evidence gathered directly from young people, she will discuss the role of the Children’s Commissioner for Wales and the importance of a rights-based approach to education and youth work. She will also reflect on the challenges facing learners today and consider the practical steps professionals can take to uphold and promote children’s rights in their day-to-day practice.
Speaking about the event, EWC Chief Executive Lisa Winstone said,
“Professionally Speaking is about bringing influential voices and fresh perspectives to the education workforce in Wales.
Rocio’s role gives her valuable insight into the experiences of children and young people. We are pleased to be able to provide this opportunity for registrants and others working in education to hear directly from her and engage with this important discussion.”
