SkillsFest 2025: Practical CPD to Power Skills-Based Teaching
Looking for new ways to bring industry-focused learning into your training sessions?
SkillsFest 2025 is coming this October, offering a week of hands-on CPD for learning professionals across Wales.
Running from Monday 20 October, the week will feature a variety of practical sessions designed to help tutors and trainers build confidence, improve delivery, and support learner progression through skills competitions. With a focus on current industry standards, new technologies, and real teaching challenges, each session will offer ideas and strategies you can take straight back to the workshop or classroom.
Led by Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales, SkillsFest is part of the wider Developing Excellence programme, which supports educators to embed competition-style learning into everyday delivery. Whether you’re just starting out or already supporting learners through competitions, there’s something here for you.
What’s On? A Snapshot of CPD Sessions
We’re still finalising the full line-up, and some sessions may change as plans develop. However, several key sectors are already shaping up to be part of the programme, including:
- Electrical Installation: Learn about recent competition format changes, evolving technical standards, and how to align your teaching with both.
- Carpentry and Joinery: Explore the new combined model introduced by WorldSkills and discover how to support learners across both trades.
- >Hairdressing: Refresh your understanding of competition criteria, see live demos, and pick up tips on preparing learners for assessment.
- Creative Make-up (SFX Focus): With a stronger focus on special effects in upcoming competitions, this session will cover materials, techniques, and judging expectations.
- Cyber Security: Gain insight into the skills, tools, and teaching approaches that support competition readiness in this fast-growing sector.
- Cloud Computing: Build your confidence with common platforms and learn how to integrate cloud-based tasks into training and assessment.
- Automation: Discover how to use PLC systems and simulation platforms to reflect modern industry standards and prepare learners for System 4.0 roles.
- Additive Manufacturing: From CAD workflows to 3D printing, this session will explore competition expectations and practical teaching methods.
Each session includes input from experienced assessors, and educators who are already embedding these skills into learner journeys. They’re designed to be practical and relevant, helping you bring competition-ready learning into everyday delivery.
