At Jisc we have been working with Welsh Government to deliver a range of services that respond to sector priorities and align with the Digital 2030 framework.

We have used a combination of services to provide you with powerful data to inform strategic decision making and these include the Digital Elevation Tool, the Digital Experience Insights surveys and the Building Digital Capability discovery tool.

We have also been delivering our learning design and Digital Diamonds workshops and co-creating and supporting a community around XR or Extended Reality.

The digital elevation tool has been developed to provide senior leaders in post-16 education and skills with an online self-assessment tool that allows you to validate your organisation’s current position against five key themes and map your digital journey in each area against the digital elevation model.

The digital experience insights surveys provide powerful data on how your learners, teaching staff and professional services staff are using technology, what is making a difference and where improvements can be made.

The surveys, which will be open from now until March 2023, can also help validate outputs from the strategic digital elevation tool. Jisc’s Building Digital Capability discovery tool allows staff and students to reflect on their digital capabilities and is tailored to specific roles or focus areas.

On completion, each participant is signposted to relevant resources to strengthen their capabilities and confidence.

Learning Design workshops have been created in response to Estyn’s recent thematic review and explore a range of learning theories and models to support the effective design of blended and remote learning. They also provide an opportunity to experiment with a range of digital tools and techniques that can be incorporated into teaching practice.

Asynchronous resources are also published on Hwb, providing staff to access at a time and place to suit them.

Staff development is key to the strategic implementation of the Digital 2030 framework and we deliver a number of workshops to engage and inspire practitioners across Wales, and the Digital Diamonds sessions aimed at ESW Digital Literacy tutors have been very well received. More of these have been scheduled for the spring, and your relationship manager will be in touch with dates. (We also deliver paid-for workshops which may be of interest including our Digital Skills for Employability in January and May 2023.)

We have established a network of managers and practitioners across Wales who are interested in XR or Extended Reality which includes Virtual and Augmented Reality for teaching and learning. Members are supported to share ideas, ask questions and collaborate with others on their VR journey. We will be holding our first in-person event in March 2023 so look out for more details from your relationship manager. Join the Post-16 community in MS Teams.

Jisc staff publish a number of blog posts throughout the year, and recently we have been tackling the issue of energy supplies, business continuity and sustainability.

Useful posts include:
When the bytes go out: preparing digital education for power outages
Learning if the lights go out

All these services are free for commissioned contract holders and their partners to use courtesy of Welsh government funding and we look forward to joining you on your digital transformation journey.

Your Jisc relationship manager will be able to provide you with further information.
