Apprentice to Ambassador!
Aiyeesha Barron-Clarke’s decision to follow an apprenticeship route to a successful career as a chef is paying dividends following her appointment as a Welsh skills ambassador.
Competing at a three-day WorldSkills event at the Birmingham NEC, Ayeeisha was approached by Eluned Morgan, Minister for Lifelong Learning, who had been so impressed with her performance that she offered her the opportunity to become an ambassador for Wales by join the ‘Skills Champions Programme’.
Through the programme Aiyeesha hopes to deliver, educate and share her passion for the culinary art to employers and school pupils across all Welsh regions.
Aiyeesha, who will soon begin her ambassador training in London, said:
‘I’m very excited about the new opportunities that have been presented to me following my participation in the WorldSkills finals last year.’
Beginning her apprenticeship journey at the Oyster Catcher restaurant, Aiyeesha is now undertaking her Level 3 Apprenticeship at ‘Catch 22’ in Valley, Anglesey.
Having always shown an interest in competitions and often challenging herself to compete at a local and national level, Aiyeesha represented Grŵp Llandrillo Menai at the Welsh International Culinary Championships, where she came away with five awards. She was also awarded ‘Hospitality Apprentice of the Year’ at the Grŵp’s annual awards ceremony.

‘As her training provider we are very proud of Aiyeesha’s development and success and we very much look forward to her returning back from her training and sharing all the new and exciting experiences with us.’
