Apprenticeship Awards Cymru Aim To Celebrate Excellence
The outstanding achievements of learners, employers and providers involved in the delivery of quality apprenticeships across Wales will be celebrated at a major event in Cardiff in November.
Apprenticeship Awards Cymru, which will be held at the Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel, Cardiff on Wednesday. November 16, aims to showcase excellence in skills development in Wales.
The awards, supported by the Welsh Government, are being organised this year by the National Training Federation for Wales (NTfW), a network of 90 quality assured learning providers which has links to 35,000 employers across Wales. Main sponsor is Pearson and media partner for the event is Media Wales.
Entries are now being accepted by the NTfW and must be received by noon on September 28. Application forms are available from learning providers or can be accessed online at www.ntfw.org/apprenticeships-awards.
The awards, which are free to enter, are split into eight categories: Foundation Apprentice of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Young Apprentice of the Year,
Entrepreneurial Apprentice of the Year, Employer of the Year, Medium Employer (10-49 employees) of the Year, Large Employer (50+ employees) of the Year and Apprenticeship Provider of the Year.
From the applications, three finalists will be selected in each category by a distinguished panel of judges. The finalists must be available for filming between October 19 and November 4.
Around 250 stakeholders from the vocational education and training sector across Wales are expected to attend the high profile awards ceremony.
“It is widely recognised that apprenticeships combine the key elements of work experience and high quality training, which are necessary for sustained employment and high productivity, both of which are required if Welsh businesses are to compete in the ever changing global economy,” said Arwyn Watkins, NTfW chairman.
“Apprenticeship Awards Cymru will showcase and celebrate the achievements of those who have exceeded expectations, shown a dynamic approach to training, demonstrated initiative and enterprise, innovation and creativity and shown an understanding and commitment to the improvement of skills development for the Welsh economy.”

The awards are being held on the eve of the NTfW’s Annual Conference, also at Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel, on November 17. This year’s conference theme, ‘Standing up for Skills’, focuses on the benefits and value of vocational skills and training in working with businesses to deliver for Wales. Keynote speakers will include the Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Skills Jeff Cuthbert, AM.
