The National Training Federation for Wales has been able to double the number of Apprenticeship Ambassadors thanks to funding from Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. The Ambassadors are all passionate about inspiring others to follow in their footsteps of completing their apprenticeship through the medium of Welsh or bilingually.

The ten apprenticeship ambassadors for 2020/2021 represent a wide variety of apprenticeship frameworks from Animal Care to Civil Engineering; and ranging from Level 2 to Level 5. The ambassadors also cover an age range spanning from 16 to 32 years of age, which further highlights that apprenticeships support lifelong learning in Wales.

The ambassadors for this year are:

  • Annwen Roberts – Childcare Level 5 at Meithrinfa’r Enfys through Itec Skills and Employment
  • Celyn Jones – Animal Care & Welfare Level 2 at Borth Wild Animal Kingdom through Haddon Training
  • Ceris Jones – Civil Engineering Level 3 at Gwynedd Council through Coleg Cambria
  • Iestyn Morgan – Hospitality Supervision Level 3 at Gwesty’r Harbourmaster through Cambrian Training Company
  • Gethin Evans – Plumbing and Heating Level 2 with Lee Worthington through Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training
  • Ifan Phillips – Electrical Installation Level 2 at D.E. Phillips & Son Ltd through Pembrokeshire College
  • Lleucu Edwards – Childcare Level 5 at Cylch Meithrin Eco Tywi through ACT Ltd
  • Llio Jones – Activity Leadership Level 2 through Urdd Gobaith Cymru
  • Poppy Evans – Business Administration Level 4 at Carmarthenshire County Council through Llanelli Rural Council
  • Tomos Acreman – Sports Level 2 through Urdd Gobaith Cymru

Ryan Evans, NTfW Bilingual Champion said: “It is great to be able to expand on the number of Welsh speaking apprenticeship ambassadors that can share their experiences of being an apprentice and how much they benefit from learning and working in both Welsh and English. We aim to inspire as many apprentices in Wales to use their Welsh at Work so that we can go some way to achieving Welsh Government’s vision of one million Welsh speakers by 2050.”

The ambassadors aim to build on the work already completed by last year’s ambassadors, and the positive impact of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity for promoting the use of Welsh on social media; so keep an eye out for posts on Twitter and Instagram over the coming weeks and months.
