The North Wales Skills and Employment Plan 2026 – 2029, will be formally launched on November 12th 2026, at Venue Cymru.
Employers across North Wales are facing growing challenges when it comes to recruitment, retention and workforce development. This event has been designed to connect businesses with the support, resources and expertise they need to address workforce challenges and plan for long-term success.
The plan provides a comprehensive overview of the region’s current and emerging skills landscape. It brings together insights from employers of all size, including SMEs and micro businesses, across sectors, highlighting their recruitment and skills needs, while also reflecting the barriers faced by individuals as they navigate training, progression, and employment opportunities.
Finding the right support can be difficult. Many employers are unsure which programmes are available, whether they’re eligible, or who to contact for help.
This event will bring everything together in one place, making it easier for businesses to access practical solutions, expert advice and trusted support.
These are some of the workforce challenges identified within the plan that are facing North Wales employers:
- 53% of employers identify recruitment as their main business challenge.
- 68% report difficulties recruiting for specific roles.
- 56% are experiencing skills shortages, particularly in skilled trades, professional occupations and management roles.
- Only 3 in 10 employers say they can easily find information about training, development and funding opportunities.
- While 81% of employers are aware of Apprenticeships, awareness of other valuable programmes, including Degree Apprenticeships, Jobs Growth Wales+, ReAct+ and the Flexible Skills Programme, remains much lower.
