Qualifications Wales is shaping how qualifications will meet the future needs of learners. New approval criteria for post-16 Hospitality and Catering qualifications have been published, with a streamlined offer launching in September 2027. Practitioners with Cymraeg skills can register for the FAB Welsh-speaking Assessor Database to support Welsh-medium assessments. Ofqual’s VTQ Information Hub provides key updates for vocational learners. Have your Say surveys on unit certification demand, Hair & Beauty qualifications, and the draft Cymraeg strategy are live.

Hospitality and Catering
Following an extensive sector review and stakeholder engagement, Qualifications Wales has published approval criteria for post-16 qualifications in Hospitality and Catering.

A new, streamlined menu of qualifications will be ready for learners from September 2027.

Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB) Welsh speaker assessor database
Qualifications Wales is encouraging practitioners with confident Cymraeg skills and an interest in paid assessor roles, to register with the FAB Welsh-speaking Assessor Database and get added to their list of Welsh-medium qualification assessors. Ofqual VTQ Information Hub
Ofqual’s Vocational and Technical Qualifications Information Hub has helpful information, key dates and deadlines for qualifications that are taken alongside or instead of GCSEs and A levels.

Live surveys

Demand for unit certification
The Review of Vocational Qualifications asked Qualifications Wales to encourage awarding bodies to make unit certification available to meet demand.

Qualifications Wales is now gathering evidence from training providers to understand where demand exists. Please have your say in the short 2-minute survey here.

Qualifications Wales is undertaking a review of the Hair & Beauty sector and want to hear the views of learners about Hair and Beauty qualifications. Learners can share their feedback by completing the short survey here.

Draft Cymraeg Strategy
Qualifications Wales is inviting stakeholders to shape its draft Cymraeg strategy. Please share your thoughts and suggestions and help ensure that use of Welsh is relevant, fair, and accessible to all. The survey is open until 8 April 2025.
