The 2022 WorldSkills UK National Finals will take place in November, across 63 disciplines, where students from Team Wales, England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will battle it out to win the title of Skills Champions. WorldSkillsUK have today announced the final list of competitors, and Wales are again the top represented region.

Over 130 Welsh competitors have been shortlisted for the competitions, which include subjects such as Graphic Design, Cyber Security and Hairdressing. The number of competitors shortlisted for this year make up 25% of the overall attendance, placing Wales at the top of the table.

Following on from last year’s varied competition set up, 2022 competitions will again be held at several locations across the UK. The WorldSkills UK National Finals will be held in six UK venues, including Wales’ own Cardiff and Vale College. 14 finals, the highest number across any of the UK venues, will take place in Cardiff, in competition categories such as Health and Social Care, Aircraft Maintenance and 7 inclusive skills competitions.

Paul Evans, Project Director for Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales said,

“Once again, it’s a fantastic achievement for Wales to be so strongly represented at the UK National Finals, with another record number of competitors taking part this November.

“This year’s competition, although still differing from the usual structure, is exciting in that it creates a competition hub here in Wales, with so many competitions taking part at Cardiff and Vale college. Much the same as last year, this not only gives students the opportunity to experience other facilities across the UK, but a chance for us here in Wales to showcase one of our fantastic locations.

“I’m extremely proud and eager to see how our competitors fair – congratulations and good luck to all finalists!”

The competitions take place from 14-19th November 2021, more details on this will follow over the coming weeks.

Partly funded by the Welsh Government and run by a dedicated network of colleges, work-based learning providers and employer-led organisations, WorldSkills UK aims to inspire and upskill future generations by developing young people’s vocational skills while celebrating their achievements.

Competitions begin at a regional level with Skills Competition Wales, led by the Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales project, and progress through to national and international competitions.

The team at Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales would like to wish all competitors good luck in their upcoming competitions, and can’t wait to celebrate all successes on the 25th of November.
