Public sector bodies invited to engage with apprenticeships
Managers of councils and other public sector bodies in Wales who are responsible for recruitment and staff development are being advised to attend three regional events which will explain how they can engage with apprenticeships.
The events are being organised by the National Training Federation for Wales (NTfW), which represents work-based learning providers in Wales, on behalf of the Welsh Government.
Councils and other public and private sector organisations, which have a wage bill in excess of £3 million, are now paying the UK Government’s Apprenticeship Levy – 0.5% of their wages bill – to support apprenticeships.
The Welsh Government is keen to work with public sector organisations to respond to their growing interest in apprenticeships to recruit and train their staff following the introduction of the new levy in April.
Work is underway to create future apprenticeship workforce plans in addition to new apprenticeships to meet the specific needs of employers in both the public and private sectors
The Welsh Government is hosting the three events to fully understand how it can support the training needs and apprenticeship requirements of the public sector in Wales.
There will be an opportunity at each event to immediately connect with work-based learning providers from the NTfW who will advise employers how they can make the most of the apprenticeships currently available.
“These events will allow public bodies to quickly access apprenticeships, either for new recruits or as part of the career development of their existing workforce, especially at the higher levels,” said Sarah John, NTfW chair.
“The events will focus on the delivery of Apprenticeship Programmes, allowing delegates to talk directly to learning providers across Wales about their specific apprenticeship requirements and additional training needs.”
The three events are at: St George’s Hotel, The Promenade, Llandudno on Tuesday, July 11, Metropole Hotel, Temple Street, Llandrindod Wells on Tuesday, July 18 and Mercure Holland House Hotel, 24-26, Newport Road, Cardiff on Thursday, July 20. All the event run from 9.30am to 12.15pm.
The Apprenticeship Programme in Wales is funded by the Welsh Government with support from the European Social Fund.
